Earnest Ward

Hi! I’ve been an artist, naturalist, traveler, storyteller, calligrapher, aviator, and adventurer all my life. I am drawn to new places, the Great Outdoors, the people I meet (and the lora and fauna I see) along the way. And I love to capture it all in my journals and my paintings.

Here on my website you’ll find several galleries of current art. And, from time to time, I’ll post news and updates of my work, travels, and adventures. So, please bookmark my site and come back regularly (or, better still, drop me an email and I’ll be happy to send you newsletter and blog updates -- maybe from the wilderness of North Cascades National Park; from a ferry crossing the Irish Sea; from a castle in Wales, the cliffs of Cornwall, an island village in Normandy, a lakeside cafe on Lake Como; or maybe from a traditional ryokan inn along the ancient Tokaido road in Japan).

I also write a blog (Earnest Ward: Drawn to Life) with new articles published weekly -- about art, artist’s materials reviews, keeping a artist’s journal, travel, and adventure. Please click here to check it out.

So, come on! Fasten your seat belts, raise your seat backs to the full upright position, and return your trays to the seat back in front of you. Our art adventure is about to begin!

FEBRUARY 4, 2018 UPDATE: Winter is still officially with us, but spring is already showing signs of being just around the corner. And those days that aren’t too wet or too bitter find me out honing my droning and aerial photography skills. New adventures and new forays into Nature’s wild places to come! (See related blog article for details.)

AUGUST 20, 2015 UPDATE: I have just rolled out a new weekly newsletter, The Zion Fresh A-i-R Gazette. During my upcoming residency and road adventure I am going to focus primarily on art making, travel journaling and shooting some time laps and step-by-step videos. So, blogging and social media will be on sabbatical and the best way to share in the adventure without actually traveling to Utah will be through this profusely illustrated subscribers-only newsletter. (See related blog article for details.)

AUGUST 15, 2015 UPDATE:  I am now scheduled to do two public presentations during my upcoming residency in Utah. The first will be on October 29 at the Southern Utah University (check with the university art department for further details), and the second will be as guest speaker at the annual Zion National Park Plein Air Art Invitational on November 4. Hope to see you there!

AUGUST 1, 2015 UPDATE: I’m now scheduled to do my third Artist-in Residence with the National Park Service. I’ll hit the road on my latest adventure around October 10 and, beginning October 15, I will be staying at the historic Grotto House in Zion National Park -- sketching, painting en plein air, exploring and journaling. Watch for additional details as they become available.

SEPTEMBER 15, 2014 UPDATE: My fourth enhanced ebook, entitled The North Cascades: A Tale of Two Seasons (Spring), is now available for preview and pre-order at the Apple iBookstore. It will be available for download from the iBookstore beginning October 15. For an inside look at the text, artwork, and viewer-activated video click on “Books” in the menu bar above and then on the hyperlink on the Books page. (And, please, tell your friends! 100% of all royalties go to support future adventures and book projects.)

JUNE 15, 2014 UPDATE: I’ve just published my first three digital books (The Clear Fork, Drawn to Adventure, and Inspiritus.) You can read more about each book (and find a link to the Apple iBooks Store) by visiting my Books page.

FEBRUARY 13, 2014 UPDATE: I’m adding new information to my WORKSHOPS page regarding my new online workshops, beginning with the FREE March 2014 Back to Basics Workshop (4 weekly lessons) for the Strathmore Artist Paper company

APRIL 26, 2013 UPDATE: I’ve added pages with detailed information about a variety of workshops I currently offer. Please take a look and let me know if you have any questions regarding details. (And be sure to watch for periodic postings of specific workshop dates and locations.)

If you see anything you like, have a technical question, are interested in scheduling an exhibition in your gallery and would like to see more of my artwork (the art posted on this site constitutes only a fraction of the body of work I’ve actually created), or if you are interested in commissioning a new piece, please email me.

And, if your looking for art supplies please visit my Art Supplies & Provisions Online store, where you’ll find something special for everyone.
